What is the IFSCP?

The Instituto de Filosofía Social y Crítica Política (IFSCP) is a centre for the analysis, generation and diffusion of knowledge about social, political and economic realities. The Institute promotes alternative thinking from a critical perspective, providing theoretical and analytical approaches to debates within the humanities, social sciences, and public opinion, with a special focus on the modernisation process experienced in late capitalism.

We develop multidisciplinary analyses and research projects, focusing on the following areas: the critique of political economy, social philosophy, political history and critical theory as well as public opinion and civil society.

The results of our work are shared through courses, seminars, and conferences; public talks and discussion forums, as well as through publications in various formats like books, columns, work-in-progress and high-impact articles. The members of the Institute regularly participate in programmes on radio, social media and streaming platforms. The results of these interventions are available on our website, which is simultaneously a digital archive of our individual and collective work.

All activities and publications of the Institute aim to contribute to the critique of capitalism, the processes of modernisation of late capitalism, and the reflection of a new model of society, promoting debates about the challenges that our societies are facing in the twenty-first century.

Mission and Vision

The Institute aims to develop a critical analysis and raise awareness of the main problems that cause social disintegration, inequality and disaffection, at the same time producing theoretical and strategic proposals in order to rethink the structural conflicts provoked by late capitalism, the patriarchy and the emergence of new alternative political projects.

The IFSCP is an organisation and network that sees critical thinking as a form of reflection and transformation of social reality. It promotes discussions and debates that inquire about the hegemonic ‘common sense’, providing alternative perspectives on the challenges of the critique of modern society in the twienty-first century.

General Objective

To contribute to the construction of analysis, research and proposals that promote alternative views from critical theory and social philosophy in order to critique capitalism and the process of modernisation in late capitalism, reflecting on economic activity, the form of the state, the political system and emergent social movements, and the production of subjectivity, both in Chile and worldwide.

Specific Objectives

  • To develop analyses of main features of the political system, the form of the state, democracy, and the emergence of new social movements in the processes of capitalist modernisation, addressing both regional and local case studies.
  • To produce analyses of capitalism and the late processes of capitalist modernisation, focusing on modern forms of socialisation and the production of subjectivity.
  • To contribute to the reflection and clarification of current debates about new alternative projects to capitalist socialisation.
  • To construct networks of research and academic collaboration, both within Chile and internationally, that contribute to public debates on the challenges of the twenty-first century.
